Over the years, our purpose as a company has somewhat evolved, from finding our feet as an SEO marketing company to becoming the full service digital agency we are today. In many ways, the transition was inevitable and a necessary feat to keep pace with the ever-changing digital landscape.

With a little help from our friends over at Ashton McGill, we’ve refined and recalibrated our way of working into something hopefully a bit more tangible for both ourselves and our partners.

Over the years, we realised that the real value in what we were doing for others was something we needed to do for ourselves. Instead of jumping in at the deep end and designing something with no real direction, we took a step back to gauge the possibilities of what we were trying to achieve. We realised that the time and effort being put into every project before the ‘work’ even began was totally undervalued and in some cases; undermined. Clients would come to us asking for a website and we would oblige. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn’t. This affected relationships and started to become a real headache over the years.

So, we made a call to change our approach. Instead of giving clients what they want; why not give them what they need? More often than not, our up-front strategic thinking and research time was brushed to the side and garnished with a shiny website which didn’t really do much for either party.

We don’t want to be a supplier; we want to be a partner.

At the risk of sounding like a dating agency, we don’t want a one night stand, we want the real thing. We want to be happy with our clients and for them to be happy with us. A partnership needs to work both ways. Compatibility is a must in any successful partnership. You have to trust your partner and share the same values. If you don’t, it will be doomed to fail from the off.

So, what do we actually do?

We challenge. If you think you need a website; we ask, ‘Why?’. If you think your customers aren’t engaging with your brand; we’ll do in-depth research to discover the reason. If you think you need a new logo; we will take you right back to your roots. If you don’t understand why a competitor is winning online and you aren’t; we will investigate and provide you with answers. If you want hiking boots; that’s not really our remit but we’ll give you a recommendation. Our job is to listen and discover what it is that you really need. These days, anyone can build a website or create a brand, but it takes real expertise and knowledge in the field to make them flourish.

In literal terms, we have a four-step method which all of our clients go through. Our process has been reverse engineered and fine-tuned over a decade. Our experience has taught us

many lessons over the years and we are very proud of our way of working and the results it produces.

Step 1 – Wayfinding

This is a strategic exercise where we question and challenge our clients on where they have come from, what challenges they face and ultimately, where they want to be.

Step 2 – Brand Map

This is the visual part. This can be anything from creating a completely new brand from scratch, evolving and refreshing an existing brand or simply consolidating all of the current brand material to date.

Step 3 – The project

From website to software system; any digital project that improves sales, brand awareness, internal efficiency and productivity.

Step 4 – Support

This is when we determine what sort of partnership we will have going forward. How can we help you achieve your end goal?

When it comes to digital, we find that most clients, understandably, jump to step 3. However, the real, often hidden value is in understanding what is really required - step 1 - and supporting that in order for it to succeed - step 4. Although it varies from client to client (depending on the existence or extent of original branding), the brand map is also an incredibly valuable part of our client journeys’. It’s where ideas start to come to life & initial research is put in to practice in order to create something visual that fits with the big picture.

There are no shortcuts on the road to success which is why preparation and planning are such vital parts of any journey. We treat our partners’ businesses as though they are our own. We genuinely care when something isn’t working and we make it our challenge to come up with a solution.
